Assignment 3A: My Entrepreneurship Story
I've never have taken any business related courses in UF and I'm quite excited to explore this field of study. Not having any basic business backgrounds, I was a bit hesitant to take this course first, but I think I'll learn a lot from Dr.Pryor. There are a few reasons why I want to study entrepreneurship, and one of the reasons is that my ex-boss inspired me to explore the option being the boss of my own.
About 2 years ago, I worked for a small scale family-based investment firm in Naples FL. Our firm gathers private investors and trades their capital in the futures markets to create profit. The firm was only run by a handful of individuals, however, Mr. Monaco Billion, who is the CEO and the master trader of the firm taught me the importance of trading and running my own business.
Mr. Billion had a rough start in his life as an underprivileged African American. He was living out of a storage unit in his late teens, one day he got a lawnmowing job at a residential house. The owner of the house suggests he pays Mr.B not with money but with teaching him skills to trade. Mr. Billion agreed and since then, he exchanged his labor with an opportunity to learn how to trade. His mentor was a tough teacher but Mr. B didn't give up, and he learned from his mentor for a few years. One day, his mentor called him and made him sign a piece of paper; later Mr. B realized that the paper he signed was a transfer of part of his mentor's trading company's share to Mr.B before the company went IPO in NYSE. With his newly found capital, he established his own trading firm in Dominican Rep., Atlanta, and Naples.
However, he didn't stop there, he understood that his knoweldge allows not only his private investors but also ordinary people to get closer to their financial freedom. So, he wanted to develop an automated trading platform, 1) so he doesn't have to trade manually every day, 2) and even if anything happens to Mr.B's life such as illness or incidents, trading can continue without an interruption. Since then, he has been working with software engineers for years to build and customize an automatic trading software that can maximize gains and minimize loss. Today, the company launched its finalized product in the market and has been working on marketing and PR. One of the reasons why he created this software was to provide ordinary individuals such as university students, single mothers, a family business owner, or anyone access to trade with their capital even if they do not have a previous trading knowledge.
One of the reasons why I have respect for Mr.B is that his small investment firm was doing well by creating profits for him; he was well off with his business, however, only exclusive clients with a significant amount of initial capital were able to trade with the firm. Mr. B did not stop his business potential there; he wanted everyone to have access his trading strategies and benefit from it because he personally told me, he wanted to make a difference in this world and he wanted to make a software that can change and better people's lives. His people-oriented business values and beliefs inspired me to study entrepreneurship so I can learn to create a product or service that can bring positive changes in my customers' lives. I look forward to this journey.

I enjoyed reading this post! Through all the difficulties your ex-boss experienced in his early life time, I am impressed with the way he grew as an individual and the progress his company made throughout the years. His life experiences made him the individual he is today and I know one day, you will pass down lessons of his and make a difference in this world.
ReplyDeleteHello Byung!
ReplyDeleteMr. B’s story is remarkably inspiring, and he started the same way as my uncle (the one I wrote my entrepreneurship story about) did, with a lawnmowing job. I also like how you worked in an investment firm but this is your first Business related course at UF, you come to class with real world experience which not everyone has.
Great post!
Thank you for sharing about Mr. B’s story, it was very detailed and inspiring to say the least. It is clear that he worked hard, and I am sure that working with him taught you countless things you can bring to your first business course! Not only is his automated trading platform a genius idea, but it definitely could help countless people! I am sure that you learned a ton from your ex-boss and will carry it with you throughout your journey.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your story about this and Mr.B’s determination and drive and was definitely inspirational. Having this in your background will be invaluable if you do choose to start your own company. Right now, my startup is working on our series A funding round, and would have loved to have the experience that you had previously.
