14A – Halfway Reflection
1) Being your own boss is the key to success not only in this course but any other online courses. ENT 3003 is not a tough course, prof. Pryor's lectures are fun and easy to understand and he's straight forward about assignment guidelines. However, if you don't manage your time or do not have dedicated hours to work on this course throughout the week, you won't go far. In the first week, you may be overwhelmed by the course information and expectations, but once you get the hang of it, you're golden.
2) I know one of the characteristics of being a successful entrepreneur is to be brave and fearless, because you may be stepping into uncharted territory. Asking random individuals for an interview was somewhat of a challenge for me. It could be nothing for some people, but something about approaching someone to ask about their opinion was daunting. I suppose I was afraid to be rejected or be judged by them. A funny thing happened, I asked a random female student for my very first interview assignment, she said no. The rejection wasn't as bad as I thought. I felt that I can be more courageous. Ever since that female student said no to the interview, I felt more confident asking others for an interview.
3) Tip 1: As mentioned earlier, you'll be asked to interview random people to define your potential customer profile. You'll have to approach them without any reservation or the fear of judgment. You have to be courageous and execute things that can help your business succeed. Be comfortable about stepping out of your comfort zone.
Tip 2: As with any class, there are times when it's challenging, but one thing that helped me be tenacious is looking at the bigger picture and knowing that I'm gaining valuable knowledge about the world of entrepreneurship that can help me succeed in the future. In short, have an eye to see the forest instead of one tree.
Tip 3: I believe going above and beyond for this course and its assignments will definitely help you down the road. Prof. Pryor is teaching us real-world business skills that we can transfer to the real world. In this sense, assignments are not just more homework, it's a valuable practice that prepares for the real game. Exceed your expectations and give your best on all the weekly assignments. It takes courage to push yourself because you are making a vow to yourself that you'll try harder and you won't give up. Those successful companies out there didn't get to where they are just being an average joe. They probably always strived to be the best in the market and in the industry. It's manageable to be the average, but it's not easy to go beyond the average.
Hey Byung,
ReplyDeleteI really liked your three tips. I liked how you gave a sneak peek of all of the interviewing for this class haha, I think it's pretty helpful. I also liked your perspective of "seeing the forest instead of one tree" as I think it is very valuable in the realm of entrepreneurship. I also liked how you tied in your own personal experiences with the advice you gave.
I enjoyed reading your post because you gave three great tips that can possibly help someone someday. Being your own boss is a strong point to make because not a lot of people have the motivation to do what they do on a constant basis. Managing time is a difficult skill to master and it is easy to spill up if you let it happen.
ReplyDeleteByong,
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I agree with you that this course is definitely doable while all the concepts taught along with the assignments are very straightforward. The key to being successful in ENT 3003 is time management, in which complete your assignments earlier than the actual due date, so you do not have to worry about it later on. I really like your first tip of being your own boss as it basically summarizes college and adulthood.
