7A Testing the Hypothesis

1. The Opportunity

"UF students on a budget have a hard time finding accessible, affordable, and quality photography services because the average full photography sessions are generally costly.


2. Who: UF students, mostly who are graduating soon because most of them want to take graduation photos
    What: Not having a go-to photography service that fits with a student budget
    Why: Because many photography services with quality photos can cost a lot.


3. The Hypothesis

The who: although this is mainly targeted at students in Gainesville, families with a tight budget who may want a small family session or a small event can use the service.

The what: Not every student or family would need a photography service. For graduation photoshoots, it is seasonal.

The Why: For UF students who are about to graduate, it is a very important moment in their life and many wish for professional photos of that special moment that captures who they really are. Another reason why they need this service is, for example, someone who wants professional headshots for their resume or their Linkedin page. Usually, an hour-long portrait session can cost anywhere from $150 to $ 400, and most of the time that does not include the cost of images.



4. Interviews (Written in bulletin point)

Interviewee 1:

• 3rd-year female student in UF, not graduating anytime soon
• she was surprised to find out that her sister's wedding photography costs over $1500
• she grew up taking family portraits but she never had to deal with the hassle of booking because her mother took care of that matter
• she definitely wants to do graduation celebration photos 
• she was surprised by how much a photo shoot session can cost

Interviewee 2:

• 1st -year female student in UF an art major
• she thought of having her art piece professionally photographed for her portfolio
• it's important for her to find a photographer with a photo style she likes
• she finds the average photo shoot session is too expensive
• she wants to a group photo with her friends, she can possibly think of splitting the bill to afford one

Interviewee 3:

• a male individual who recently became UF alumni
• when he was graduating, he and people he knew had a hard time finding a photography service in their budget
• all he wanted was a couple of graduation photos
• all the local photographers were booked for graduation day well advanced

Interviewee 4:

• a male UF student who is interested in a headshot for his resume
• he has a school career event coming up, he wants to polish his resume
• he believes that adding a professional and unique portrait headshot is important. 
• he thought about going to JCPenny photos or Walgreens but he wanted more of a unique photo that captures his personality
• his budget for the headshot was $40 dollar

Interviewer 5:

• a young female individual who wants some outdoor modeling photos for her Instagram and social media
• she would resort to using a more expensive service, but before investing in a full portrait, she wishes there was a service that allowed her to take a minimal amount of photos and see the result
• her ideal budget for a full photography session is from $50 to $100 for an hour session. 

5. Summary

There is certainly a demand for an accessible and affordable photography session for personal or business reasons, such as graduation photos and resume photos. There are opportunities for other session types other than graduation and headshot. Many of them were surprised by how much the average photo shoot in Gainesville can cost. But also, they didn't want the quality to suffer by having their roommates or their family to take the graduation session with their cellphones but some of them had to resort to that because of the prices.
